The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee members along with Deputy Mayor G. Rajkumar, on Wednesday night inspected a few road stretches where LED street lights were installed as part of a pilot project.

The team interacted with the officials of GHMC and Energy Efficiency Service Limited and offered some suggestions.

The GHMC authorities as part of a pilot project are replacing 748 conventional streetlights with LED lights.

While a total of 289 LED lights are being installed on Hi-Tech City to Kothaguda road, another 459 LED lights are being installed on Chandrayangutta-Nayapul stretch.

Less energy consumption

The GHMC has taken this initiative as LED street lights bring down energy consumption by 65-67 per cent.

This apart, the LED lighting system also helps in reducing operating costs due to energy saving and real-time monitoring.
