A high power committee constituted by the Telangana government will set in motion the process of consulting 60 to 70 service associations on the recommendations of the 10th Pay Revision Commission next week.
The consultations will start on January 29, but which associations to be consulted and in what sequence they should be invited were yet to be decided, according to K. Pradeep Chandra, chairman of the committee.
He told The Hindu that the committee, among others, will hear the view point of the associations on their three main demands – fitment, implementation of minimum wage and date of implementation of PRC. The associations have been demanding a fitment of 69 per cent against 29 per cent recommended by the PRC. They have also been demanding a minimum wage of Rs. 15,000 to employees though the PRC doubled the benefit from Rs. 6,500 to 13,000. The 10th PRC, which is due from July 1, 2013, is also likely to be a bone of contention between the government and the associations. Official sources said that it will be a huge burden on the State exchequer if the demands were to be met in toto. The committee will hear the views of the associations and give its suggestions to the government to take a final decision. They also said it might not be possible to invite all the associations due to time constraint. Instead, the joint action committees representing individual service associations may be contacted.
