Having completed the construction of double bedroom housing units for the poor at IDH Colony, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has drawn up plans for the construction of 10,000 similar housing units in the city.

The GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer, Somesh Kumar, on Monday said that the proposal for another 10,000 double bedroom units had already been drawn up and submitted to the government for necessary approvals.

The civic body plans to build at least 1,000 housing units in each constituency in the city and field level work has already been completed for this, he said.

The construction work at IDH Colony, Bhoiguda, is already complete.

Smart cities

On the recently announced 98 nominee cities for Smart Cities, Mr. Somesh Kumar said the GHMC would be preparing a detailed vision document for the city to catapult it to the list of 20 selected cities.

The process of finalising consultants will be completed by September 5 and a comprehensive smart city project report will be prepared in the next two months, according to a press release released here.

Revenue

The municipal corporation is trying to increase its revenues without raising taxes and as part of this strategy, a thorough review of advertisement policy and required steps will be taken up. Through an advance survey, review of the policy and checking illegal hoardings, an estimated Rs.100 crore can be realised, he said.
