Villagers of Rakonda in Doma of neighbouring Ranga Reddy district detained and beat up a constable after he allegedly barged into the house of a Dalit woman and outraged her modesty, police said on Wednesday.
At around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 40-year-old constable Shankar went to the house of the woman, who was alone, and misbehaved with her, villagers said. He was allegedly found in an inebriated state. After the woman raised an alarm, Shankar was caught by the villagers.
They confined him to the house and thrashed him before calling in the police.
Case registered
Doma Sub Inspector N. Sridhar Reddy said a case under IPC Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of and the Prevention of Atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act was registered against the constable. Mr. Reddy, however, maintained that the constable was not drunk but had collapsed due to a heart-related problem.
Hospitalised
Though initially taken to the government hospital at Parigi, he was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital. Later, his family members shifted him to a corporate hospital for treatment.
