Unequivocally condemning the recent murder of a mandal Congress leader in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has warned of serious consequences if the Congress cadre were targeted for political reasons.
“The Congress party will not tolerate vendetta politics or allow misuse of power to settle political scores,” he said, denouncing the brutal killing of Vemula Srinivas, the vice-president of Annapureddypally mandal Congress committee, at Yerragunta allegedly by his political rivals on September 15.
He said the TPCC will extend all possible help to the bereaved family of the deceased Congress leader and do everything to safeguard the interests of the party cadre.
Mr. Reddy was addressing the party cadre at Indiramma Rythu Bata programme held here on Thursday.
He slammed the TRS government for allegedly constituting farmers coordination committees on nomination basis with “narrow political interests”.
The TRS government has decided to extend ₹4000 per acre towards input investment assistance from Kharif in 2018, just a year ahead of the next general elections, with an eye on votes, he charged.
The more than three year rule of the TRS regime has proved a curse for the farmers, Dalits, tribals and other underprivileged sections, he alleged, lambasting the TRS dispensation for allegedly failing to deliver its major pre-poll promises – three acre land to Dalits, two-bedroom houses and one lakh jobs.
The Congress cadre should attend the gram sabhas organised as part of the ongoing exercise to update the land records so as to uphold the interests of poor people.
Rythu Samrakshana Samithis should be formed by involving the farmers’ organisations to represent the grievances of farmers and resolve their issues, he suggested.
The TPCC in association with several other mass organisations will hold dharnas in all gram panchayats across the State on October 2 in protest against the attempts to dilute the powers of local bodies and inordinate delay in payment of wages to the wage seekers under the MGNREGS, he said.
AICC in-charge for Telangana R. C. Khuntia alleged that the TRS government was pursuing dictatorial policies to silence the voice of opposition.
He exhorted the party cadre to harness the potential of the “Shakti” mobile app launched by the party as an effective internal communication tool.
