CPM leader flays Govt for not responding

Even as the indefinite strike in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited called by the Central trade unions entered the seventh day on Wednesday and is fizzling out with a steady increase in attendance of coal miners at all the mines, the opposition Congress party decided to visit the coal mine areas in Ramagundam region on Thursday to extend solidarity with the miners.

According to sources Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy along with former minister D. Sridhar Babu, former chief whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and others are planning to tour the coal belt region of Ramagundam region in Peddapalli district on Thursday.

The Congress party had decided to extend solidarity with the striking miners and support the demand of the Central trade unions of revival of dependent employment scheme in SCCL.

‘Not serious’

CPM leader Thammineni Veerabadram visited the Godavarikhani coal belt area on Wednesday and extended solidarity to the Central trade unions and the miners. Speaking on the occasion, the CPM leader flayed the State government for not making any effort to resolve the strike which had entered the seventh day. He said that the state government was not committed to its promise of fulfilling the revival of dependent employment scheme for coal miners. He charged that the government and the Singareni management with not being serious about the DES and having issued a circular full of flaws which the courts struck down.
