A business manager of a multinational company, along with his parents, two sisters and brother-in-law, were nabbed by the city police on Monday for allegedly killing his wife at his house in Shanti Nilayam of Brundavan Colony under Chikkadpally police station limits three days ago.

The arrested have been identified as J. Balakrishna and his parents Chittaranjan and Jagadamba, sisters Pramida and Sri Shanti, and brother-in-law Satish.

Throat slit

Balakrishna allegedly killed his wife Rajani by slitting her neck with a knife when she was asleep.

He later sprinkled vermillion and turmeric on her legs and the balcony attached to the bedroom to mislead the police into believing that she was practising black magic, said Chikkadpally Additional Inspector K. Subbarami Reddy.

Chittaranjan is a local Congress leader.

He explained that the family bore a grudge against Rajani after she came to know about Balakrishna’s alleged extra-marital affair.

Rajani, her husband and in-laws used to quarrel over the issue regularly, upon which Balakrishna hatched a plan to eliminate her.

Accordingly, he offered a liquid laced with sleeping pills to Rajani and once she became unconscious, he slit her neck with a knife, the Additional Inspector said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother Rajender, the police registered a case under relevant Sections of IPC, including murder against the family members and arrested them.
