YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma called the Congress regime in the State as ‘inhuman’ while describing her husband and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as a ‘leader with a human face’.

She drew this parallel on the first day of her two-day ‘Fee Deeksha’, to protest against the alleged dilution of YSR’s fee reimbursement scheme by the Congress government here on Monday.

Ms. Vijayamma alleged that the Congress rulers who succeeded YSR were indifferent to the problems being faced by students with poor economic and social background. An estimated 1 crore students benefited from the scheme during the five-year rule of her husband.

She said YSR had struck a balance between development and welfare and said that the present government ignored the welfare aspect. Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani, who parted ways with the TDP, made an appearance at the protest camp and criticised TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu whom he accused of being always against welfare of the poor.

During the demonstration, Ms. Vijayamma interacted with college students and received petitions from different outfits on various issues. Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister Pitani Satyanarayana at a press conference here charged Ms. Vijayamma with politicising the issue of fee reimbursement and rubbished the allegation that the government had diluted it.
