Cong. to take tough stand during budget session

Focus to be on taking on the TRS Government for encouraging defections

The Congress has decided to take an aggressive stand against the TRS Government during the budget session of the legislature beginning Saturday.

They are planning to register their protest during the Governor E.S.L.Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of the Telangana legislature by taking on the TRS Government for encouraging defections.

Sources said the Congress leaders would go all out to corner the Government on various issues in a move to neutralise criticism that the party had failed to get its act together in the previous sessions. The Congress Legislature Party meeting chaired by CLP leader K. Jana Reddy decided to raise people’s issues.

Protest demonstration

Congress legislators said they would not be silent spectators in the matter of raising public issues.

A senior Congress legislator told The Hindu that a protest demonstration during the Governor’s address was on top of their agenda for this session.

“We want to highlight the blatant mockery of democracy by the TRS leadership which is shamelessly encouraging defections. The very fact that a defector becomes a Minister in the present regime shows that they have no respect for laid down practices,” the senior leader remarked.

The party is fighting against defectors who joined the TRS some time ago. The High Court earlier this week had issued notices to the TS legislature to reply on the action taken against the legislators who had switched loyalties.

The CLP has also petitioned the Speaker and Council Chairman to initiate action against those who had crossed over to the other parties.

Other key issues

While disqualification of the defectors is high on their agenda, the CLP meeting listed 28 other issues that would be raised by the members during the session.

Farmers suicides, swine flu, power traffic hike, shifting of the Chest Hospital and construction of Secretariat, sale of Government lands, Mission Kakatiya and Water Grid schemes and failure to implement SC and ST sub plans would find their echo in the House, the CLP members said.

The meeting was attended by CLP leader in the Council, D. Srinvias, Deputy leader in the Council, Md. Ali Shabbir, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N.Uttam Kumar Reddy, working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others.
