Irrigation Minister Harish Rao has directed the department officials to complete the Sriram Sagar second phase and Tupakulagudem project work by June 2018.

Mr. Harish Rao, who reviewed the project work at Jala Soudha here on Wednesday, said that the progress of the work should be reviewed every week. If Tupakulagudem project was completed, Devadula pumps would work continuously for 10 months and it would stabilise six lakh acres under the Devadula Project.

The SRSP second stage work for providing water to four lakh acres in the drought-affected areas of Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal districts should be speeded up, he said. Under this project total work worth ₹ 1,321 crore was being executed.

The Congress government had neglected the project totally from 2005 to 2014, Mr. Harish Rao alleged. The TRS Government had stabilised 2.25 lakh acres under the SRSP Stage II and water should be provided to another 1.75 lakh acres. Because of damaged lining in Kakatiya Main canal and silting, lands in drought-affected areas of Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts were not getting irrigated, he pointed out.

The repair works should be completed soon and all the field channels should be brought into use, he instructed the officials and reiterated that the Chief Minister was determined to provide water to tail-end areas under the SRSP ayacut.

The officials should take the help of MLAs, MPs in resolving any bottlenecks in the completion of the project work. As Kaleshwaram will be connected to the SRSP next year, the second stage work should be completed by then, Mr. Harish Rao said.

The Government was determined to take Sriram Sagar water to Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mahbubabad, Dornakal Assembly constituencies which had not received a drop so far.
