August 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

In the backdrop of ensuing Police Commemoration Day-2016, the Telangana State Police Department is holding competitions in Photography, Short Films, Best News Item and the Best Story Board.

‘Smart Policing-Role of Social Media in Community Policing’ is the theme of the competition. It is open to public in the categories of Photography and Short Films. Only persons working in Print and Electronic media are eligible for the remaining two categories, DGP Anurag Sharma said in a press release.

Competition will be held at district level. A Special Jury Committee comprising eight to 10 members will finalise eight best entries in each category.

These entries will be sent to the State-level committee. Out of all these entries, cash prizes would be presented to the top best eight entries in each category on Police Commemoration Day on October 21.

Persons wishing to participate in the competitions can submit their entries to the respective Public Relations Officers of the Districts or Commissionerates of their residence jurisdiction. Last date for submission of entries is August 20. Rules, regulations and clarifications can be sought from the SP or Commissioner offices. Crime Investigation Department IGP Soumya Mishra will co-ordinate conducting of competitions. Mr. Sharma said the competitions were introduced last year so that people knew and understood the concept of people friendly policing and services of police.

Police were not only confined to maintenance of law and order but were actively participating in Government programmes like Mission Kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha, Swatch Telangana and Haritha Haram, the DGP said. Last year, the competitions were conducted only in the categories of Photography and Short Films.
