CPI (ML)-New Democracy has appealed to the Member of Parliament Kalvakuntla Kavitha to use her influence to give compensation under the Land Acquisition Act-2013 to the residents of eight tribal hamlets under Bairapur and Kalpole gram panchayats in Mopal mandal, as they are about to lose everything with the construction of the proposed Manchippa reservoir.

Memorandum submitted

In a memorandum submitted to her, here on Wednesday, the party division secretary Akula Papaiah and senior leader V. Bhoomaiah said that with the new project coming up as part of the Pranahitha Package-20 with a capacity of 3.5 tmcf, the tribal Banjara residents would have devastating effect on their lives.

The tribals would lose their land, houses, livestock, assets and livelihood. It is the responsibility of the government to instill confidence among them about their future, they said.

Papaiah, later talking to The Hindu said that, the innocent tribal families must be provided with alternative land for agriculture, jobs and suitable compensation in lieu of the lands they were losing. He also demanded that the land acquisition must be undertaken only after the tandas were made gram panchayats.
