Compensation just a pittance, says CPI(M)

June 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:47 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana State committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) heaped criticism on the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for misguiding people and trying to divert attention from the issue of Mallannasagar Project oustees, instead of arriving at a consensus and paying the required compensation to those who would be affected with their lands getting submerged.

At a press conference here on Monday, the CPI(M) State executive members Venkat and Nandyal Narasimha Reddy accused the government of side-tracking the main issue - that of people in 11 villages whose lives would be displaced and who would lose their livelihood. “Government is only talking of adequate compensation when what is being offered to the victims is only a pittance,” they rued.

They said the compensation being offered was just about Rs. 6 lakh per acre when the market rate is much higher. They demanded that the government construct houses for houses and land for land that would be lost due to submergence, at other locations.
