With the partial demolition of the Charminar Bus Station on account of the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project, the Telangana State Road Trasnport Corporation will soon be compensated with a land parcel in Falaknuma, in close proximity to a proposed metro station.
As part of the now fast-moving CPP, the Charminar Bus Station, which is around an acre in size, will soon make way for a multi-level parking lot. It is also being used to relocate hawkers who were moved from the around the Charminar monument.
While top officials of the TSRTC were unaware of the move, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Authority Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar confirmed the development.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Kumar said that the GHMC had pointed out that there was traffic congestion in the area. Hence the bus station is being moved.
In fact, the land parcel which will eventually be handed over to the TSRTC could prove to be more beneficial.
“It is going to be useful for it (TSRTC) in view of the the land parcel being closer to a metro point,” Mr. Kumar said.
