Gundu Hanumantha Rao passes away

The comedian acted in 400 movies

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao took to Twitter to condole the death of well-known Telugu comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao who passed away at 3 a.m. on Monday at his Srinagar Colony residence in the city. Gundu Hanumantha Rao, 61, had been suffering from kidney ailment for quite some time. Born into a middle class family in Vijayawada on October 10, 1956, Hanumantha Rao dabbled in theatre from a young age. The first role he essayed on stage was in a play titled Ravana Brahma in Vijayawada.

His big break came when in film-maker Jandhyala’s Aaha Na Pellanta , he played the role of the groom’s father, who is hard of hearing. But it was his roles in TV serials like Amrutham that earned him acclaim and awards, including three Nandis. He acted in 400 movies.

Actor Nani tweeted: “Gundu Hanumantharaogaaru is no more .. his Role in Amrutham was one of my fav .. RIP sir”.
