MMTS compartments to look different
Giving in to rising complaints against men travelling on MMTS ladies coaches, the South Central Railway (SCR) has come up with a novel idea of painting ladies coaches pink for better identification.
This apart, woman passengers can now look forward to a better travel experience, as the coaches will have mirrors, besides photographs of eminent woman personalities.
Under a pilot project, the SCR authorities have refurbished an MMTS train with better seat cushions, improved passenger information system and LED display boards on both sides of the train.
The train, which was refurbished at the EMU car shed, Moula Ali, was introduced to passengers on Sunday during the Republic Day celebrations.
The SCR upgraded the nine-car MMTS rake (one train composition) with new features after General Manager P.K. Srivastava’s interaction with passengers a few weeks ago.
In fact, he had travelled by an MMTS train to assess the facilities being provided to passengers.
An SCR spokesperson said the coaches would now have exclusive colours to curb men from boarding ladies coaches.
Earlier, only three coaches in a rake sported LED display boards, but now they are provided in all the nine coaches for passengers to identify their respective destinations, he explained.
First class compartments will now have better seat cushions.
This apart, the quality of audio announcements inside the coaches has been improved, the spokesman claimed.
The train will be operated on all routes to gather passengers’ feedback for about a month, and based on their suggestions, similar facilities will be put in place on all MMTS trains, he added.
