The annual State Youth Festival got off to a colourful start on Saturday at Sampradaya Vedika, Shilparamam. Minister for Youth Affairs, Tourism, Culture and Archaeology Vatti Vasant Kumar inaugurated the three-day event.

The festival showcases a wide range of events including folk dance, one-act plays, classical vocal, classical instrumental solos, elocution, essay writing, painting, dance, mimicry and ventriloquism.

Hundreds of children from various districts of the State are attending the event.

First prize winners will participate in the National Youth Festival to be held in Ludhiana, Punjab, from January 12 to 16, 2014.

Film on organ donation

As part of the event, a short film on the importance of organ donation will be screened.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar said similar events should be arranged at high school and junior college levels, so that children of all ages get an opportunity to showcase their talents.
