The Government has agreed to fill up to 200 posts of the Town Planning Supervisors/ Town Planning Assistants and 26 Food Inspectors (Food Safety Officers) in Greaer Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao signed the file issuing orders to this effect on Tuesday. The posts will be filled through direct recruitment by notifying the same through the Telangana State Public Service Commission. The decision was taken keeping in view the actual requirement with the GHMC. The municipal corporation had earlier requested the Government to fill the posts for speedy processing of the administrative and technical files at ground level and also to provide basic civic amenities to the citizens.
The town planning wing plays a vital role in according building construction approvals, removal of illegal encroachments and taking up road widening in the rapidly growing city. But, of the total sanctioned strength of 412 from the Chief City Planner to the Surveyor, the current strength is only 135. Similarly, there are only three food safety officers in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Municipal Administration Secretary Navin Mittal explained to the Chief Minister about the vacancy position and the need to fill them as most of the civic body town planning work is being done by very few officers resulting in a lot of work pressure on the staff, a press release said.
