CM announces ₹1,000-cr package for Old City

Mohalla clinics to be opened at 200 places

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday announced ₹1,000 crore worth of infrastructure projects for the Old City, and said he would personally launch the work very soon to be completed on a war footing.

Old City will be made flood-resistant, free from drainage overflow, and without problems related to drinking water, power and traffic, he assured the residents.

The comprehensive action plan will be announced before the beginning of the month of Ramzan, during his visit to the Old City.

He has instructed the Chief Secretary to review the Old City work twice a month. Besides the infrastructure development work, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to take up beautification and purification of the Musi River work at a cost of ₹1,600 crore and ₹1,200 crore Metro Rail work also be completed on a fast track.

The Chief Minister held a detailed review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan here on Monday on power, drinking water, sewerage, and SRDP work in the Old City.

Five new 33/11 kV substations would be installed for the supply of quality power, Mr. Rao said and asked the officials to take measures to acquire land for the purpose and start construction work. Rolling stock of transformers should be kept ready, so that transformers can be replaced immediately whenever there is a problem, he said.

In view of the upcoming festivals of Ramzan, Ganesh Chathruthi, and Bonalu, the work should be taken up immediately, he added.

He asked officials to take permanent measures to mitigate the drinking water problem in Old City, by setting up reservoirs for drinking water at seven places. The existing water pipelines were laid during Nizam’s period, and they should be changed, he said.

Modernisation of pipelines and widening of drains should be taken up at a cost of ₹200 crore. He asked them to take up the SRDP on a war footing and construct three new bridges as part of the work.

Funds required for all these projects would be arranged very soon, he said.

In view of the good response to the Mohalla clinics, they should be opened at 200 places in the city, he said, and asked Medical and Health Minister Ch. Laxma Reddy to ensure availability of equipment for medical check-ups in the clinics and more number of dialysis centres.
