The GHMC in association with the Ramky Group will be sponsoring supply of 15,000 clay Ganesh idols - one one-and-a-half feet and 100 nine-inch ones to each of the 150 corporators in the next few days costing Rs.5 lakh for distribution in their respective divisions, said Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu on Tuesday.

Clay moulds and Ganesh idols will also be supplied to all government schools to enable children to make their own idols. The municipal corporation will also supply clay to the schools. Mr. Krishna Babu also offered to sponsor play equipment to the government schools having playgrounds and urged the headmasters/principals concerned to contact their respective area corporators with the request.

Deputy Mayor Rajkumar and Mr. Krishna Babu held a meeting with different voluntary organisations, Government schools principals, floor leaders and others at the municipal head office to propagate the message of worshipping Ganesh idols made of clay. Highlighting the need to avoid using chemical dyes and plaster-of-paris idols, the Commissioner felt that the awareness is spreading even if gradually.

District Education Officer Subba Reddy wanted private schools also to be involved in the exercise.
