750 expected to have cleared from Telugu states

Some 750 are expected to have qualified from the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the Civil Services Preliminary examination the results of which were released on Thursday.

All aspirants who have qualified, will have to appear at the Civil Services Main Examination which is scheduled to commence in October. This year 20,075 candidates have appeared from the Hyderabad centre.

The number of qualified candidates is expected to have come down this year by about 200 in the two Telugu states. This is on account of reduced number of vacancies. The UPSC announced around 1,000 vacancies this year and it usually selects aspirants equivalent to 13 times the number of announced vacancies.

Moreover, the aspirants have felt that this year’s preliminary examination was tougher than the previous years. They also felt that the paper was not balanced in the sense that some areas were over represented.

“The cut-off is expected to have been around 56%. The results have been declared within 40 days and this is in tune with the recommendations of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission which has appealed for reducing the time frame of the examination,” Gopalakrishna.V of Brain Tree said.
