Over the past few years, the Maheshwaram constituency has seen a sea change in its environs. The once quiet place has turned into a busy area thanks to the massive development in its divisions such as Saroornagar and Ramakrishna Puram.
Due to the real estate boom, Saroornagar today has a population over 90,000 people of which 45,514 are voters spread out in over 25 colonies. However, residents have been forced to tackle issues such as garbage, overflowing drains and drinking water problems.
This Assembly constituency covers three divisions of the GHMC – Ramakrishna Puram, Saroornagar (part) and Gaddiannaram (part).
One of the main problems residents face is the open nala at Bhagat Singh colony and the extensive pollution due to a plywood factory at Mythri colony.
Also, the drain line which goes from Shatavahananagar towards Kakatiyanagar overflows perennially, causing problems for residents.
Poor maintenance
Moreover, poor maintenance of parks in the area is also being highlighted by the contesting candidates. Saroornagar itself has over 30 parks, which are demarked by compound walls, but there is no attempt to give them a facelift.
Many areas such as Alkapuri, NTR Nagar do not have proper roads and in some areas, the drain covers jut out, posing threat to motorists plying there.
Women candidates
The division has seven women candidates, of which two are contesting independently. On the other hand, Ramakrishna Puram has over 52,000 voters who will decide the fate of seven women candidates.
Water problem
Also, many apartments have a drinking water problem, which the candidates have promised to rectify. Residents of the area also have to deal with viral fevers and dengue.
