The GHMC has sought land from various government departments, public sector units, and private companies for construction of bus bays in all the main thoroughfares in the city. The Corporation has identified 55 locations for construction of bus bays in the first phase.

Departments meet

A meeting was convened by Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy on Saturday with heads of 18 departments, where he placed a request for handing over the sites mentioned for construction of bus bays. Of the identified sites, eight belonged to Education and Revenue departments, six to Home department, five to Housing department, four to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, three each to Forest, Medical & Health, Industries and Agriculture departments, and two each to Minority Welfare, TSRTC, and HMDA. Besides, sites of Survey of India, Allied Infra, and TSIIC have also been identified.

Construction of bus bays will help ease traffic on city roads, and the sites identified are very small in size, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said. A survey has been conducted by the GHMC Town Planning wing in this regard.
