They don’t mind paying more, given the humid months that lie ahead
What was a political bid to woo the city’s IT professionals turned out to be an opportunity for the latter and many other commuters on the MMTS to vent their grievances.
BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy who travelled in a MMTS train to the Hi-Tec City station on Thursday morning, received a barrage of proposals from commuters, especially software professionals who use the service on a daily basis, to improve amenities.
Prime among them was the demand for air-conditioned coaches.
“I travel everyday from Kacheguda to Hitec City by the MMTS and this takes me at least 45 minutes to one hour. During summer, it becomes very tiring and irritating as there are no AC coaches. The government should seriously consider having them because for most part of the year, we have humid days,” said software engineer P. Siva Krishna, who works for a multinational company.
They would not mind paying for such a facility, some of the commuters said. With a rising number of employees using the MMTS, there was also a request to increase its frequency and the number of coaches. “There are times when the coaches get so overcrowded that it is difficult to find a seat. There is no choice but to get in the train since the frequency to certain stations is still poor,” complained 25-year-old commuter, R Mahesh.
Woman commuters also complained about the lack of safety in the stations.
“When we travel at nights it is scary as there are no police personnel. This apart, we have to face anti-social elements,” said M. Hemalatha, a manager with a private firm.
Assuring that everyone’s demands would be met once the BJP came to power at the Centre, Mr. Kishan Reddy said, “There are presently nine bogies in MMTS trains, which needs to be increased to 12. The frequency too should be increased and AC coaches need to be introduced. For women’s safety, there should be a minimum of one police picket in every MMTS station.”
Mr. Reddy then went around IT parks in Gachibowli and Madhapur area and interacted with the employees.
