After a single spell of power cuts on Monday, many localities in the GHMC area endured power cuts of three hours, distributed uniformly across two spells, on Tuesday.
CPDCL has been imposing power cuts since Sunday, given the uncertainty in power generation following agitations by electricity employees in the Seemandhra region.
“We had to give load relief for three hours on Tuesday, to be able to supply power to agricultural consumers here. It is a tight-rope walk for the load monitoring wing of the central discom, as the areas within our purview consume 50 per cent of the total power available to the State,” a CPDCL official said.
A collapse?
He did not rule out the possibility of a grid collapse, should agitators in the APTransco resort to sabotage of inter-State power lines. Alternatively, the grid could collapse if all substations in the Seemandhra region begin to draw power at once from the grid.
