In the run-up to International Women’s Day, Hyderabad police will organise a host of events to raise awareness on the safety and security of women as well as objectives of SHE teams.

This year, the event will include a two-day SHE Teams Run Expo starting from March 3 and 10K, 5K and 2K awareness run on March 4 at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road.

Making this announcement at a media conference here on Tuesday, in-charge Director General of Police, M. Mahender Reddy said over 7,000 people from different walks of life are expected to participate in the runs that would be flagged off by shuttler P.V. Sindhu and Tollywood actor Vijay Devarakonda and other eminent personalities.

Home Minister Naini Narshimha Reddy will inaugurate the Run Expo with 50 stalls at People’s Plaza on March 3, he said.

The two-day Run Expo will have displays on cyber crimes, SHE teams, traffic, CLUES teams and other wings of police and government departments, where the public can interact with them.

One can register on www.eventsnow.com and collect their T-shirt, bibs and 10K run timing chips at a special counter at the expo on March 3.

Mr. Reddy appealed to the public to participate in the expo and the runs, to learn about the various initiatives taken up by the department and said the objective is to make Hyderabad crime-free and a safe city for women.

To encourage participants, the volunteers will set up hydration counters, live bands along the way and each participant will be entitled to specially designed SHE Teams Run medal and certificate, he said, adding that no registration fee will be collected from college students.
