Hyderabad will host the Yoga National Championship at Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium here from December 26 to 29 with about 1,000 participants from across the country taking part, according to K. Laxman, BJP floor leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly and chairman of the organising committee.

Competitions will be held in the age groups of 8-11, 11-14, 14-17, 21-25, 25-35 and 35 years and above featuring artistic and rhythmic yogasanas.

Yoga Federation of India jury members will officiate the event to be formally inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Dr. Laxman felt that the nationals would further popularise yoga which is “nature friendly and is widely practised across the world cutting across cross-sections of the society”.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya will be the chief guest for the valedictory function.

Eminent sports personalities are being invited to grace the four-day event and this is part of the run-up to the World Yoga Day, which the United Nations will be celebrating on June 21 thanks to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the organising committee chairman pointed out.
