City police taking no chances with security arrangements

Separate parking lots for investors, entrepreneurs and even delegates from the State

The officials of United States Secret Service (USSS) have suggested to Telangana police, among other things, to ensure space for parking vehicles at the main venue of Global Entrepreneurship Summit-2017 to commence here on Tuesday.

Even as they keep the details of U.S. President’s daughter Ivanka Trump’s participation in the GES close to their chest, they have made it clear that they would not encourage any deviation from their standard security strategy. A USSS officer, who met the Telangana top police brass recently, reportedly said that the convoys of vehicles be kept away from Ms. Trump during her visit to the city.

“That security point was noted,” said a Telangana police official, seeking anonymity. Accordingly, the Cyberabad police are making meticulous arrangements for parking vehicles at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre at Madhapur.

Colour codes would be given to vehicle passes. Separate parking lots have been earmarked for vehicles of speakers, investors, entrepreneurs and even delegates from the Telangana State. The GES attendees would be arriving at HICC from morning though it would be inaugurated at 4 p.m. “We staggered the timings of arrival of the delegates so that there is no rush at the entrance in the last minute and traffic snarls on the roads leading to HICC,” a traffic police officer said. The Cyberabad police would take over the entire HICC complex and the areas in its vicinity from Saturday. Till Thursday, they focussed on the crucial pre-event security arrangements through surprise checks and enhanced patrolling of localities. The members of Greyhounds are combing the areas at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Madhapur. The squads of Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS) would be deployed at Miyapur metro rail station and HICC.

The presence of police personnel would be minimal inside the HICC, but all the access points to it would be closely monitored. Inside the HICC, no policeman would be clad in their regular uniform barring top officials of the Cyberabad police.
