The tricolour was hoisted at several public and private organisations in the city on the occasion of Republic Day on Monday.

The celebration at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, perhaps the biggest of the lot, witnessed a huge gathering.

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan unfurled the national flag and addressed the gathering. The programme was also marked with a march-past by cadets.

Other government organisations that hoisted the national flag at their respective offices include the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Information and Public Relations Department, and the Pollution Control Board.

Traffic curbs

Traffic restrictions were also in place in Secunderabad to facilitate easy movement during the course of the celebrations. Schools and colleges in Hyderabad also celebrated the day at their respective premises.
