Telangana IT Minister K.T.Rama Rao on Wednesday said that the State government was keen on encouraging young entrepreneurs and as part of the hand-holding process extend tailor-made packages.

Speaking after launching a laptop, priced at Rs.9,999, of a Hyderabad-headquartered RDP Workstations Pvt Ltd, the Minister said such packages would help harness the potential of young entrepreneurs. He also highlighted the need to deploy technology to bring about a social change.

IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said affordable devices such as the laptop would help achieve the objectives of Digital Telangana programme. At the heart of the programme is the ambitious plan of the State government to provide broadband connection to every household.

RDP Workstations, which undertakes design and engineering of the laptop here and outsources the manufacturing to Taiwan, plans to set up a manufacturing facility in Telangana.

“We may come up with a financing scheme for people to procure the laptop” once the company starts manufacturing in the State, Mr.Ranjan said, adding six villages in Telangana have become 100 per cent digital literate. The government, he pointed out, has engaged Indian School of Business to carry out a third party audit of the digital literacy levels.

The 14.1 inch RDP Thinbook laptop comes with Intel Atom x5-Z8300 processor and runs on Windows 10. It has a 2 GB RAM and offers a 32 GB storage, which is expandable upto 128 GB.
