The city came alive on Saturday with celebrations of Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
Naats or verses eulogising the Prophet began issuing from speakers early in the morning. Green flags and buntings were installed in many streets. Speakers in masjids delivered sermons explaining the life and times of Prophet Muhammad. Several underscored that Muslims should follow his example.
Earlier in the day, the All India Majlis-e-Tameer-e-Millat organised a public meeting at Nizam College grounds. The meeting saw a galaxy of speakers touching upon the various aspects of Prophet Muhammad’s life. Several underscored that Muslims should follow his example.
While smaller processions were seen in various parts of the city, the Old City saw two centralised processions. The first was organised by the Sunni Dawat-e-Islami. This was the 19th annual procession. The procession began at Mecca Masjid and travelled to Haj House from where it returned. The second was organised by the Sunni United Forum of India which began in the afternoon. This procession too began at Mecca Masjid and ended near Gulzar Houz. Camels and motocycles were a part of the procession.
Masjids and other Muslim places of worship were brightly illuminated. Areas like Yakutpura too came alive. The festivities continued till late in the night.
