Y. Charan Reddy earned the right to hit the bulls-eye when this Andhra Pradesh Sports School student got selected to represent India in the Stage 2 World Cup archery championship at Medellin (Columbia) from May 13 to 18.
The 19-year-old Charan, yet another product of the untiring efforts of SAAP consolidated coach Dr. Pallela Ravi Shanker, is said to be one of the best talents from the School who is expected to make a huge impact in the days to come in the compound bow category.
“If the early results are hint like his 10 medals in different Nationals and Asian Grand Prix medals in Mongolia, this boy will make it really big,” insists the proud coach even while he expresses gratitude to the RRDAA secretary K. Satya Prasad and Eega Sanjeeva Reddy, secretary of APAA, for constantly guiding the young talent in his pursuit of excellence at the highest level.
For his part, Charan feels he is lucky to be working under a coach who treats all his trainees as his own family members. “What makes us put in that extra effort is the warmth and concern coach displays during training,” says the young archer, who is the son of bus conductor Venkat Reddy in Kadapa district.
Ever since this young archer joined the AP Sports School at the age of eight, he has been making slow and steady progress. “I must acknowledge the support of my School Director Dr. K. Narsaiah who makes it a point to send me to all major events,” he said.
For someone who won team gold, individual bronze and mixed tem silver in second 2013 Asian Grand Prix in Mongolia and also the team qualification gold in the Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok early this year, Charan is confidence personified of winning a medal in Columbia.
