Expressing solidarity: TDP-TS working president A. Revanth Reddy interacting with family members of woman farmer Nagamani, who committed suicide recently, at Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s native village Chintamadaka near Siddipet on Wednesday.

High drama was witnessed during the tour of Telugu Desam Party Telangana State unit working president A. Revanth Reddy and a delegation of the party leaders to Chintamadaka, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s native village near Siddipet, to console the family of a woman farmer who committed suicide recently.

Mr. Revanth Reddy left the city to visit the family members of Nagamani, owner of five-acre land, who allegedly took to the extreme step after the standing crop in four acres withered due to sudden rise in temperature. Mr. Revanth Reddy’s convoy was stopped by the police as it reached Siddipet resulting in heated argument between the two sides.

While the police said the TDP-TS had not applied for permission to take out a rally, the latter contended that it was not a rally and it was convoy of vehicles accompanying the TDP-TS working president. As the police remained unrelenting, Mr. Revanth Reddy directed some of the party leaders to leave after which he was allowed to move. Mr. Revanth Reddy’s delegation was stopped once again at Sitarampur enroute to Chintamadaka from where he walked to the village.

As the delegation approached the village, people identifying themselves as residents of the village, staged a dharna on the main road asserting that they would not allow the TDP-TS leaders into the village. They squatted on the road raising slogans “Revanth go back”.

Tension prevailed in the area as the TDP members entered into an argument with the TRS cadre asking the latter to allow them to console the family of the deceased.

The TDP members alleged that the agitators were not residents of the village and they were prompted by the party leadership to obstruct the convoy of the TDP-TS working president.

Refused entry

The agitating villagers did not budge. Instead of allowing the TDP delegation into the village, they called the family members of the victim outside the village for an interaction with the TDP-TS delegation. Mr. Revanth Reddy assured that his party would extend financial assistance to the family of the deceased and would standby them in times of crisis.

The family members, however, refused to accept ₹ 50,000 cash assistance extended to them by Mr. Revanth Reddy.
