Chided by parents, teens immolate themselves

In separate instances, two teenagers committed suicide by setting themselves ablaze, reportedly after their respective parents chided them, police said on Tuesday.

Sixteen-year-old Mounika of Kondapur, was upset after her father rejected her wish to join an intermediate college of her choice.

“Her father Balakondaiah reprimanded her on Monday night as she insisted that she be admitted to the same college that her friends were joining,” police said.

Minutes later, the teenager poured kerosene and set fire to herself. She was rushed to Gandhi Hospital where she succumbed to her burns late in the night.

In a separate case, K. Pavani, 15, burnt herself after her mother scolded her for refusing to attend to some work in the kitchen on Monday. The girl, who hails from Lingojiguda in Saroornagar, suffered 100 per cent burns. She was taken to a hospital but was declared brought dead.

17-year-old hangs himself

Charan, 17, a vendor at a local vegetable market in Madannapet, committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in the same locality on Monday night, police said. The teenager’s father, Raju, had reportedly scolded his son over money matters. A dejected Charan killed himself over the matter, the police said.

Cop falls to his death

A head constable of the AP Special Police First Battalion, Inder Singh, 56, died after an accidental fall at the house of former Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy in Banjara Hills on Tuesday.

Singh, who was on guard duty, fell to the ground face-down after hitting a rock and suffered head injury. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
