The Majlis candidates start off with this inherent advantage in GHMC polls.

It is one place where it is in an invincible position. In fact there is none to take on the Majlis in the Charminar Assembly constituency covering eight municipal divisions. A traditional stronghold, this segment has been returning the Majlis candidates to power whatever the political wind be.

The Majlis candidates start off with this inherent advantage in tomorrow's GHMC poll. It is multi-cornered contest in all divisions with candidates of Congress, Telugu Desam and BJP also being in the fray. But at best it is a token fight they are putting up.

In some pockets in and around Charminar TDP MLC, Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Masqati, has considerable clout and can tilt the balance in favour of the TDP candidates. The MBT has also fielded its candidates in Husaini Alam, Noor Khan Bazar and Ghansi Bazar divisions. Going by the past record and the Majlis performance in the recent Assembly election, the party candidates are expected to sail through without much problem.

The Majlis is, however, worried about the newly-formed Ghansi Bazar division, an area dominated by the Marwadi community. Its candidate, Sangeeta Agarwal, is facing a tough opponent in BJP's Megharani Agarwal and TDPs Meena Agarwal. Likewise, the party is having a tough time in the other two new divisions of Shivarampally and Attapur.

Right from day one Majlis leaders, Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi, are campaigning vigorously for all party candidates. The huge rallies taken out by them have pepped up the election scene. The only other notable leader to campaign in these parts is former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu. But his opposition to Muslims being given reservations among BCs has not gone down well with the voters. The municipal divisions of Noor Khan Bazar, Patharghatti, Moghalpura, Shahali Banda, Husaini Alam, Ghansi Bazar, Puranapul, and Aliabad have their litany of civic problems. Will they influence the voting trend? Or will the electorate plump blindly for their favourite party?
