Chain snatchers nabbed

The West Zone police on Tuesday arrested a member of the notorious ‘Lamba Hussain’ chain snatching gang and recovered 57 tolas of gold chains and five motorcycles all worth Rs. 17 lakhs at his instance. Another person who supplied SIM cards to the gang was also arrested by the police.

The accused Mirza Azmath Ali Baig (22), of Nawab Sahab Kunta was involved in 19 chain snatching cases reported in different areas of the city, DCP (west) V. Satyanarayana said. The gang leader, Syed Hussain alias Lamba Hussain, who is involved in around 200 chain snatching cases, is absconding.

The gang members procured SIM cards from Mohd Imran of Nawab Sahab Kunta and frequently changed their phone numbers to avoid being caught by the police. Imran allegedly sold 144 SIM card to the gang members, the official said.

Efforts are being made to identify the receivers of the gold chains and they will be arrested soon, the official added.
