A CCTV camera installed at a house in Seetarambagh under Habeebnagar police station limits helped police unravel the mystery behind the murder of a first-year degree student K. Shiva Kumar on Sunday and nab seven persons involved in the crime.
Ornaments recovered
Police recovered 80 tolas of gold and 78 tolas of silver ornaments, along with Rs.5 lakh in cash, from the arrested persons. They have been identified as Thakur Ramesh Kumar (25) of Mangalhat, Mohammed Ahmed (28) of Somajiguda, K. Srinivas (24) of Medak, D. Suryanath (31) of Seetharambagh, Ch. Shravana Kumar (33) of Old Mallepally and D. Raghu (35) and G. Raghvender (26) of Ziaguda. Another gang member K. Ramesh of Mangalhat is absconding.
“We showed the footage to 150 old offenders, history-sheeters and locals. One person identified Ramesh Kumar and Ahmed. Fingerprints collected from the spot also helped. Thus, we managed to detect the case within 32 hours of the incident,” City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters.
Police said Srinivas, who was working for the victim’s grandparents as an auto trolley driver noticed considerable cash and gold in the house. Along with his accomplices, he hatched a plot to steal them.
For this, his friends Ramesh Kumar and Ahmed came to the house dressed as cable TV workers. When the student was watching TV, the accused came from behind and strangled him to death. They broke open the bedroom door, stole gold and silver ornaments and Rs.5.88 lakh cash and escaped on a Pulsar motorcycle stolen from Kukatpally 15 days ago.
