Cases booked against jewellers at Hyderabad expo

The Hyderabad Jewellery Pearl and Gem Fair that was inaugurated on Friday at Hitex in Madhapur got into trouble immediately after the Legal Metrology Department officials booked two cases for using 17 electronic weighing machines illegally.

Following directions from Additional Director General of Police and Legal Metrology Controller R.P. Thakur, the department officials conducted a surprise inspection to verify the standards of machines put up for weighing gold ornaments and found that the exhibitors were using machines imported from China and Japan illegally, a press release issued by the department stated.

A separate case was also booked for using ultra shine packages for polishing gold ornaments without having declarations under the Packaged Commodities Rules.
