Cases against students to be lifted soon

June 14, 2014 01:19 am | Updated November 17, 2021 02:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced in the Assembly on Friday that his government would soon lift cases registered against students and youth during the movement for statehood to Telangana.

The cases in the purview of the State government would be lifted en bloc first and they would pursue with the Centre lifting of cases in its purview. Stating that most of the cases were false, the Chief Minister said the police had named the same group of students indulging in different incidents at a time in different places.

He explained that some cases had shown a group students participating in protests in OU campus, MLAs’/Ministers’ quarters, Panjagutta and Banjara Hills, all at 2 p.m. and said such cases made it clear that they were falsely registered. “The police have booked 489 cases against me in different police stations,” Mr. Rao told the Assembly.

Cases such as the ones booked by Railways would be pursued with the Centre for their withdrawal, he stated.

In his clarification to Congress MLA T. Jeevan Reddy, Mr. Rao said it was not possible to provide any financial assistance to the students who had participated in the T-movement.
