Legal Metrology Dept. has booked 146 cases against several jewellery shop owners

The Legal Metrology Department has booked a case against Joy Alukkas store at Punjagutta on Monday for charging 22 carat rate for an 18 carat ornament sold to a customer.

Controller of Legal Metrology R.P. Thakur said during Akshaya Thritiya, the department had booked 146 cases against several jewellery shop owners across the State, including the one against Joy Alukkas. These cases were booked for selling gold ornaments without deducting the stone weight from the gold weight, not using one mg accuracy electronic weighing machine and few other violations. Among 146 cases, 19 cases were booked against jewellery shop owners in Karimnagar, 12 in the capital, 10 in Warangal and rest in other districts. He urged customers to lodge complaints against the shop owners for short weighing in gold jewellery, for not weighing gold on the one mg electronic weighing machine and not mentioning the purity of the gold in the bill.
