The Abids police on Tuesday registered a criminal case against a cloth store selling garments with Quran verses and Islamic scriptures on them, following a complaint lodged by MBT corporator Amjedullah Khan.

In his complaint, Mr. Khan charged that Alyssa showroom in Abids was selling designer clothes for women with such verses hurting sentiments of Muslims. Based on his complaint, a case under section 295 (deliberate and malicious act to outrage religious feelings) of Indian Penal Code was registered.

The matter was being investigated into, the Central zone DCP V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said.
