Thirtyfive DSC-2012 first list selected teachers kept the police and government machinery on tenterhooks for several hours on Thursday after going up the Samkshema Bhavan in Masab Tank and threatening to jump down if the State government fails to give them posts.
The nine-hour long drama came to an end after police took them into custody by breaking open the doors leading to terrace of the building. The 35 agitators, including eight women, were detained and let off on personal bonds. A case of attempting suicide and assaulting two private guards of the building was registered against them.
The protestors barged into the building around 8.30 a.m., shoving aside the security guards who tried to prevent them. They went up the staircase by breaking two doors. Some of them also carried petrol bottles.
Threatening to end their lives by jumping from there or burning themselves, the agitators urged the government to announce that all the 957 candidates selected as teachers in the first list of DSC-2012 be given posting orders immediately.
According to them, the Government had finalised selection of these candidates based on the written test and declared their names in the first list.
“Even verification of certificates and background check was completed but for some administrative reasons, the government changed the list and announced a second list giving postings to others,” they complained.
West zone DCP G. Sudhir Babu rushed there with teams of policemen and tried in vain to bring them down. TNGOs leaders Devi Sree Prasad and Srinivas Goud, too, made similar appeals but the agitating candidates stuck to their guns.
Minister’s promise
Minister for Secondary Education K. Parthasarathi faxed a note, following consultations by the police, assuring that he would come out with a positive decision after discussing the matter in the Cabinet meeting on Friday. However, the agitators were not convinced by this promise.
Finally, around 5.30 p.m., the DCP accompanied by some policemen went up the terrace and took the agitators into custody after breaking open the doors.
