A car driver and his wife, who works in a beauty parlour, committed suicide by hanging themselves in their house at Sainagar in Hafeefzpet, the Miyapur police said on Wednesday.

Ghousia Begum (26) of Borabanda and Shaik Amjad (30) of Jagadgirigutta took the extreme step after they had a heated argument on Tuesday night.

The couple married against the wishes of their family members a few months ago.

“They developed differences over family matters,” Miyapur Sub-Inspector V. Saidi Reddy said.

Ghousia called up her elder sister and discussed the matter, the SI said. On Wednesday morning, relatives grew suspicious when the couple did not respond to their telephone calls.

They came to the couple’s house and found bodies of the wife and the husband hanging to the ceiling in two rooms of the portion. No suicide note was found. A case has been registered
