The Hyderabad police launched a manhunt to locate a car driver who decamped with Rs. 53 lakh in cash belonging to his employer in Abids on Wednesday.
The driver, Prakash, ran away with two bags containing wads of currency, after his employer Sanjay Agarwal got off the car to go to a government office at Triveni Complex near Chermas in Abids. By the time Agarwal came out, Prakash had fled with the money leaving the car in the parking lot.
Police said Agarwal, owner of Ghanshyam Das Jewellers at Abids regularly deposited money in SBH at Gunfoundry. On Wednesday too, he took Rs. 63 lakh in cash, but for some reason, the bank accepted only Rs. 10 lakh cash. Agarwal, the police said, wanted to deposit the remaining Rs. 53 lakh in HDFC Bank in Himayathnagar and was on his way.
While going to Himayathnagar, he stopped at Triveni Complex where he had to go to the Debt Recovery Tribunal for some work and instructed his driver to wait for him in the parking lot. Agarwal returned within ten minutes only to find Prakash missing with the bags containing money.
Police said Prakash, hailing from Karnataka, was working with the Agarwals for the last one year. Five special teams have been constituted to locate him, ACP Abids B. Limba Reddy said.
