Police on Tuesday solved the case pertaining to the murder of a Vizianagaram-based realtor Y. Shiva Prasad at Hotel Hampshire Plaza at Lakdikapul recently, by arresting his car driver Prashanth.
City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters that the CCTV camera footage at the hotel confirmed the complicity of the car driver, who had gone missing along with the car since then.
Prashanth was nabbed on a tip-off at Bowenpally check-post while he was proceeding to Odisha. A gold chain, gold rings, three ATM cards and Rs.56,000 cash along with the blood stained clothes were recovered from him.
According to Mr. Sharma, the businessman had recruited Prashanth last month.
The driver reportedly was unhappy with Rao as he was abusive and used to ill-treat him. The businessman would also force Prashanth to give him a body massage.
On August 15, Rao came to the city from Bangalore and checked into Hampshire Plaza.
The next day he returned to the room after attending some work, while Prashanth returned a while later after dropping Rao’s gunman at a nearby guesthouse.
When Rao asked him for a body massage and abused him for some reason, Prashanth decided to eliminate him.
When Rao was asleep, Prashanth smashed his head with a weighing machine rod killing him on the spot and fled with the valuables.
The murder came to light when Rao failed to respond to the gunman’s call. The hotel staff broke open the door and found him murdered.
