The message from experts was loud and clear! The ever increasing burden of cardiovascular ailments among the population can only be controlled by taking preventive measures. On the occasion of World Heart Day on Sunday, cardiologists in the capital called upon the public to keep doing simple things like changing lifestyle and to be more physically active.
Sunday was also marked by a series of awareness campaigns, free health camps, pledges, talks and health walks organised by a clutch of hospitals in the city.
NCC cadets took a pledge for a healthy heart at an awareness campaign organised by Billion Hearts Beating Foundation at the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA). Apollo Hospitals executive director Shobhana Kamineni, Air Commodore Suresh Badyal and hundreds of NCC cadets attended the campaign.
Yashoda Hospitals, in association with Inorbit Mall and Zumba Cardio Fitness, held a fitness activity at Inorbit Mall on Sunday, with over 1,000 persons participating in five sessions of Zumba cardio fitness for six hours. The hospital also launched the ‘Donate your Extra Weight’ campaign to encourage people to lose weight. To set an example for the public, doctors, nurses and other staff members of Narayana Multispeciality Hospital bicycled their way to the hospital. Ozone Hospitals organised a ‘Stay Young at Heart’ walk from Kothapet to Dilsukhnagar. Care Hospitals, Nampally, is offering exclusive ‘Lifestyle Management Clinics’ between September 29 and October 5, besides offering free consultations with nutritionists, Yoga experts and physiotherapists for heart patients.
Continental Hospitals organised a healthy heart walk, ‘Heart-A-Thon’, between IIIT Junction and Continental Hospitals, Gachibowli. British High Commissioner, Hyderabad, Andrew McAllister, Continental Hospitals CMD Dr. Gurunath Reddy and hospital staff participated in the walk. A public forum on heart ailments was also organised by the hospital.
