The Cabinet sub-committee on joint venture projects in housing with public-private partnership will soon work out the ways forward in case of the pending projects, without causing loss to the government or creating trouble to the private company managements.

The sub-committee led by Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy and comprising Finance Minister E. Rajender and Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy visited several joint venture projects in Gachibowli and Kukatpally areas of Hyderabad on Saturday before holding a meeting on the issue. The committee was set up on the directions of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao following pendency of the projects for about a decade now.

Mr. Indrakaran Reddy told the managements of private partners of the joint ventures that the government is ready to resolve the issue and at the same time it was the government’s responsibility not to cause any loss to the public exchequer.

Principal Secretary of Housing Ashok Kumar, Kukatpally legislator M. Krishna Rao, Chief Engineer of the Housing Board Rajagopal, Balaji Nagar Corporator P. Kavya Reddy and others participated in the meeting.

The committee would hold a few more meetings before preparing a report with its recommendations for resolving the issue and submit it to the Chief Minister. The committee visited nine joint venture projects in the city as part of its field visit to examine their status.

On the joint venture housing projects, Mr. Indrakaran Reddy said the combined Andhra Pradesh Government had cleared 19 projects in 2001 with public-private partnership.

However, only one of the projects was completed so far and nine others were incomplete. The remaining nine projects did not take-off at all, he said.

Flats were yet to be registered in the names of the beneficiaries, although some buildings were complete, the Minister said adding that the committee would collect information as to why the companies had failed to complete the projects in time as per the agreement. Residents in some buildings explained to the committee members about the problems being faced by them.
