Bus blaze: FSL collects more clues

November 09, 2013 12:07 am | Updated 12:07 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A special team from the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) is once again examining the Volvo bus that went up in flames a few days ago at Palem in Mahabubnagar district and claimed the lives of 45 passengers.

The team, comprising fire experts, is examining the interiors of the high-end bus where passengers kept baggage. This initiative would enable experts collect more samples from the ravaged bus to ascertain the exact reasons for the fire, a senior official said here on Friday.

APFSL, till now, has accorded priority to completing the DNA profiling to hand the bodies of 42 passengers to their family members. The laboratory, which completed the DNA profiling, is now focusing on establishing the cause of the inferno on the bus, the official explained.

In the meantime, the Mahabubnagar district administration has decided to hand over the remaining body of Maithily to members of her family at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary on Saturday.

“Her family will be arriving from Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning. We will complete the necessary formalities and hand over her body to the family members,” said District Assistant Collector V. Vijayaramaraju. The administration has handed over all the bodies that were preserved at the mortuary after conducting the DNA test.

Injured recovering

On the condition of the injured passengers recuperating at DRDO Apollo Hospital, doctors said Yogesh, who received 45-50 per cent burns, is stable.

Dr. Samiullah said that the patient’s facial swelling had reduced. “Breathing and oxygen levels continue to remain normal and all his vitals are normal,” he said.

Four other patients -- Ayyaz Pasha with 10 per cent burns, Srikar with 22 per cent burns, Rajesh with 15 per cent burns and Mazhar Pasha who has 22 per cent burns -- are stable. They are expected to be discharged in the coming week, the doctor added.
