A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akther on Tuesday pulled up the Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for not filing comprehensive reports on the steps taken on prevention of accidents involving high-speed private buses.

The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by K.V. Subba Reddy, who alleged in the petition that most of the accidents involving private buses were occurring due to non-implementation of Motor Transport Act and rules pertaining to working hours of running staff such as drivers.

The bench expressed displeasure at the sketchy reports and pointed out that concrete steps taken were not mentioned. The bench wondered why a committee was not appointed to implement the Act of 1961.

It further directed that the Principal Secretaries to the Transport department shall appear in person before the court if both the governments failed to file proper reports and adjourned the case to June 6.
