Burglars struck at five houses and three shops at Rajiv Gruha Kalpa Colony in Kokapet on Saturday night and made away with 10 tolas gold ornaments and Rs. 4,000 in cash.

The thieves entered the houses by breaking open the main door locks.

While the gang members managed to steal gold ornaments weighing 10 tolas from the house of a stone cutter Krishna, they could not find any valuables in the other four houses.

The theft came to light on Sunday morning when Krishna’s neighbour noticed the broken lock and informed him, Narsingi Sub-Inspector Afeezuddin said.

He said inmates of the four other houses had gone to their relatives’ house when the incident occurred. Burglars entered the shops by lifting the shutters and stole Rs. 4,000 in cash. “We suspect the role of a single gang in the thefts,” Mr. Afeezuddin added.
